    University Capacity Building Program (UCBP)

    The University Capacity Building Program (UCBP) is a strategic initiative designed to strengthen the research administration and development capacities of Georgian higher education institutions (HEIs).  

    Funded by the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi and administered by American Councils, UCBP supports Georgia’s innovation and economic growth by expanding research competencies and fostering U.S.-Georgian academic collaboration. 

    Program Objectives

    • Assess current research administration capacity within Georgian HEIs.
    • Train and resource Georgian research administrators on grants management and U.S. funding systems.
    • Strengthen U.S.-Georgian university partnerships through workshops, mentoring, and study visits.
    • Develop a sustainable community of Georgian research administrators equipped to collaborate globally.

    Ukrainian Business Leaders: Promoting Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program (UBL PIE)

    Ukrainian Business Leaders: Promoting Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program(UBL PIE) is a brand-new U.S. Government-sponsored two-way exchange program designed to build lasting business partnerships between mid-level entrepreneurs, innovators, and businesspersons from Ukraine and the United States.UBL PIE Program aims to empower young entrepreneurs, innovators, and businesspersons from across Ukraine with the skills to develop innovative economic, policy, and business solutions. Through a hands-on fellowship in the United States, participants will be exposed to sound business practices, leadership skills, and networking opportunities that will position them as leaders to effect change in their businesses and communities.

    The fellowship will provide participants with the inspiration needed to foster new forms of innovation, stimulate private sector economic growth in both Ukraine and the U.S, and cultivate productive ties between U.S. and Ukraine businesses and communities.

    Citizens of Ukraine, 21-40 years old, proficient in English, with relevant experience in business, entrepreneurship, social media, innovation, social entrepreneurship, regional economic development, and/or technology.

    More than 150 guests celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Kosovo American Education Fund (KAEF) last week at the Night of the Rising Stars. The annual fundraising event supports the next generation of KAEF fellows, rising stars with ambitions to use their education to help their country.

    American Councils welcomed a crowd to its DC headquarters last week for the 9th annual silent auction, which raised money for scholarships for bright, international scholars. The annual fundraiser focuses on a region of the world where American Councils operates and, this year, programs in Albania and Kosovo took center stage. Dignitaries from both countries addressed the VIP reception, which was officiated by AC board of trustees’ member, Gazmend Gjonbalaj.

     In 1996, Thomas Burns decided to take his study of the Russian language to the next level by spending a semester in St. Petersburg and what is now the Russian Language and Area Studies Program. Since then, he's lived and worked in several other countries while building his career as a visual storyteller. Today, he is based in Tbilisi, Georgia.
