NEWL Partners
The success of the National Examinations in World Languages (NEWL®) is supported by its network of partner organizations. NEWL’s core mission is to provide standardized assessments in less-commonly taught languages, allowing students to demonstrate their proficiency and earn college or university credit. Since its inception, American Councils has partnered with the College Board to ensure high-quality examinations. The College Board has published an explicit endorsement recommending that NEWL results be treated as AP equivalents.
American Councils also maintains strong partnerships within each language community to support outreach, professional development, and address language-specific challenges. Our language-specific partners include the American Council for Teachers of Russian (ACTR), Camões Institute, Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), International Korean Educators Network (IKEN), Korean Education Centers in the USA and Canada, and Qatar Foundation International (QFI).
