American Councils Joins the IVLP Network

American Councils for International Education is pleased to announce that the Department of State approved an agreement with Graduate School USA (GSUSA) resulting in American Councils assuming administration of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), the U.S. Department of State's premier professional exchange program. Effective January 1, 2022, American Councils welcomed the team from the International Institute of GSUSA and proudly joined the IVLP network as one of the eight National Program Agencies.

“American Councils is honored to continue an IVLP tradition begun in 1940 that strengthens U.S. engagement with countries around the world and cultivates lasting relationships among current and emerging foreign leaders with their American counterparts. We are excited to bring the expertise we have developed over the past 45 years delivering high-impact short-term professional programs to IVLP,” said Dr. David P. Patton, President and CEO of American Councils.

Founded in 1974, American Councils’ mission is to strengthen international ties and mutual understanding through excellence in academic, professional and cultural exchange, language acquisition, educational development, and research, reaching over 238,000 in-person and virtual students and young professionals annually. American Councils manages several high impact professional programs including the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative, the Professional Fellows Program, the Ukrainian Business Leaders Program, and the Uzbekistan Business Leaders Program. As with these and other programs, IVLP represents another opportunity for American Councils to connect current and emerging global leaders to U.S. counterparts through short-term programs and expose diverse U.S. communities to international audiences.
