As Uzbekistan accelerates its modernization agenda, information technology (IT) is key to economic growth, innovation, and international competitiveness. To thrive in this rapidly changing sector, today’s youth must possess technical knowledge and global communication skills.
American Councils for International Education addresses this need through the English for IT Program, a nationwide initiative preparing Uzbekistan’s youth to succeed in the digital economy. Implemented in partnership with IT Park University and funded by the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan, the program equips students ages 15–17 with the English proficiency, digital literacy, and leadership skills essential for careers in technology and beyond.
This summer, more than 250 competitively selected students gained tools to access global IT opportunities and strengthen their future career prospects. U.S. based and local trainers in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Ferghana, and Nukus built strategies to deliver dynamic, student-centered camps for 9th and 10th graders.
“This camp was not just a place to study, but a place to grow, be inspired, and create unforgettable memories. I hope we meet again in the future for new adventures, projects, and successes,” said a student from Ferghana.
On the final days of camp, students showcased their final projects that demonstrated their growth in English, technology, and teamwork. More than 61 projects were completed across the five camp sites.
“Information technology is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Uzbekistan’s economy,” said Tom Toomey, Program Manager at American Councils. “Programs like English for IT ensure today’s students are ready to seize tomorrow’s opportunities.”
