North Macedonia


Skopje is the capital city of North Macedonia, the birthplace of Mother Teresa, and home to American Councils North Macedonia since 2003. Today, AC North Macedonia offers programming for high school exchange students from North Macedonia and the U.S., and hosts an internship program for Lehigh University.

AC North Macedonia cooperates with the U.S. Embassy in North Macedonia, American Corners, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Macedonian American Alumni Association, and many local high schools, universities, and NGOs.

Featured Programs

Balkan Language Initiative: Intensive language training for college and graduate students.

Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES): An exchange program for high school students from Muslim majority countries to live and and attend school in the United States. It is currently the largest program supported by AC North Macedonia.

Overseas Professional and Intercultural Training Program: Six-week, English-language internships for students and professionals.

Title VIII Research Fellowships: Scholarship support for independent, in-country research for three to nine months.

YES Abroad: An exchange program for American high school students to live and attend school in North Macedonia (and several other countries).
