    Why is it surprising that Denise Tatum is an accomplished Chinese instructor? She has not followed the typical path of an English teacher, mother of two, and a part-time Wal-Mart hairdresser. However, last summer, the Nevada teacher completed her fifth Chinese immersion program by participating in American Councils' Intensive Summer Language Institute (ISLI) for Chinese Teachers. By providing advanced Chinese and Arabic training, the ISLI program enables passionate teachers like Denise Tatum to cultivate critical K-12 language programs in the US.
