AC's Board of Trustees expresses its deep appreciation and respect for our founder and President Dr. Dan E. Davidson, who will be retiring this summer.

The Board of Trustees of American Councils has expressed its deep appreciation and respect for the service of our founder and President Dr. Dan E. Davidson, who will, after more than 40 years at the helm, be stepping down as CEO this summer. Anyone who has had occasion to listen to his insightful commentary on international education, research or teaching, or has had the opportunity to benefit from his professional expertise in language learning, understands the impact he has had on the field.

Dr. Davidson founded American Councils (then the American Councils of Teachers of Russian) in 1974 with the goal of expanding educational exchanges with countries beyond the Iron Curtain. In the ensuing decades, American Councils has grown from a small office in the Russian Department at Bryn Mawr College into a large, global organization with 30 international offices and programs in over 80 countries. We are enormously proud of all that American Councils has accomplished under his thoughtful, inspiring leadership and confident that the organization is poised for continued success in building a world of globally competent citizens.

In recognition of his service, the Board is pleased to announce the creation of the Dan E. Davidson Fellowship. Your support will have a direct and personal impact on the students, teachers and researchers who would otherwise not have the opportunity to benefit from a formative international experience. For more information about the program, please see the Dan E. Davidson Fellowship program page.
