June 2 marked a milestone for American Councils for International Education in Uzbekistan as the fifth cohort of the Young Professional Internships Program (YPIP) officially launched, welcoming a dynamic group of 93 emerging leaders. The 2025 cohort joins a growing network of 167 young leaders shaped by the professional opportunities offered through YPIP, with one in 10 alumni working at American organizations or companies affiliated with or headquartered in the United States.
The opening ceremony was attended by mentors, YPIP alumni, and distinguished guests, including U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick.
Emphasizing the importance of real-world experience for early-career professionals, Ambassador Henick remarked: “This program is designed to help all of you to get practical experience and to develop good job skills and work ethic. These are the things that set the United States apart from other countries.”
Preparing Uzbekistan’s Brightest Young Leaders
The 2025 cohort of young professionals will complete 12-week internships at one of 38 host companies across fintech, marketing, engineering, and project management. Host organizations include both U.S.-based and Uzbek institutions, strengthening partnerships between the U.S. and Central Asia.
“Our countries have enormous potential for commercial and economic relations. I am extremely optimistic that in the near future we are going to see our relationship continue to grow, and I hope that all of you will be a big part of that,” said Ambassador Henick.
Interns will engage in trainings from experts, participate in mentorships and peer learning, and gain hands-on experience through field visits that offer real-world insights into daily operations of various business entities.
The Young Professional Internships Program (YPIP) is funded by the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent and implemented by American Councils for International Education.
