Serbia

American Councils Serbia opened in Belgrade in 2002 with the launch of a fellowship for newly-minted university instructors. In the ensuing years, AC Serbia has administered and supported international scholarships for hundreds of educators and other professionals, as well as college and high school students.

Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX), an exchange program for high school students across Europe and Eurasia, was the largest program supported by AC Serbia. FLEX had an average of 1,200 applicants and 40 participants annually. In 2026, the FLEX Global program for high school students was introduced.

FLEX Global builds on the legacies of the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) and the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programs by expanding participation globally. The program advances U.S. interests by cultivating a network of young leaders who understand and support U.S. culture and priorities, with a focus on entrepreneurship, technology and super intelligence (SI), and leadership.

Our office works closely with the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade and maintains relationships with vital stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Development, and local community organizations and entities.
