
International Children’s Day, a globally recognized celebration of society’s youngest members, has been annually observed on June 1 for the past 54 years. The celebration was commemorated by two Eurasian Alumni Coordinators this year, each with a longstanding commitment to the children and young adults of their communities.
FLEX Alumni Coordinator (AC) Samir Khalilov ’06, who works with and coordinates the activities of FLEX alumni in Azerbaijan, was named AC of the month for May 2009! The AC of the Month award is bestowed upon the Alumni Coordinator who has exhibited outstanding professionalism in one or more of the following categories: conducting alumni activities, compiling information on FLEX alumni successes, working with media, and securing cost-sharing opportunities.
On May 31 at the Language Flagship annual meeting in Austin Texas, New Jersey Congressman Rush Holt was awarded the 2009 Language Flagship Leadership Award. The award was given to Congressman Holt for his extraordinary contributions to the advancement of language education and learning in the U.S.
