A representative from nearly every generation of the American-Serbian and Montenegrin Youth Leadership Exchange program (A-SMYLE) recently gathered to mark a decade of an alumni network that continues to grow and focus on serving their communities.

United by the experience of living with a host family, attending high school, and developing leadership skills in the US, the group of 24 friends and colleagues spent a weekend volunteering at a local history museum in Sirogojno, Serbia and planning further community service activities for their hometowns.

Marko, a recent alumnus, felt inspired after the weekend of volunteer projects and planning. He says, "Alumni members of our network are the most awesome people ever...thanks to our group, I get to spend time with people that are motivated to work together to improve our home communities."

With the current class of students finishing their US exchange year this month, the A-SMYLE network is looking forward to welcoming the new alumni and encouraging them to get involved in service projects.

About A-SMYLE
The American Serbia and Montenegro Youth Leadership Exchange (A-SMYLE) Program was established in 2005 to create stronger linkages between the United States and its partner countries of Serbia and Montenegro. The program provides the opportunity for students, ages 15-17, to explore youth leadership, civic responsibility, community activism, democracy, and American society.
