American Councils-Sponsored Program Features World Affairs Scholar James P. Rubin

WASHINGTON, D.C. American Councils for International Education is pleased to announce "Fireside Chat with Jamie Rubin," with guest of honor and speaker James (Jamie) P. Rubin at the Kosovo American Education Fund (KAEF) Gala on Friday, November 22, 2013, in Pristina, Kosovo.

"Fireside Chat with Jamie Rubin," aims to foster interesting and fresh perspectives and discussions on key issues in world affairs and education. Mr. Rubin is known to the people of Kosovo as a top policy adviser to US Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright and special negotiator in securing the transition of the Kosovo Liberation Army, bringing peace to the region during the Kosovo War. Currently, Mr. Rubin is a visiting scholar at Oxford University's Rothermere American Institute; a contributing editor of The New Republic; and a commentator, lecturer, and analyst on world affairs and US foreign policy. Mr. Rubin also served under President Bill Clinton as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs and Chief Spokesman for the U.S Department of State from 1997 to May 2000.

The Kosovo American Education Fund provides scholarships for master's degrees at distinguished universities in America. The education fund is a key resource for talented Kosovar scholars to gain additional learning and new opportunities in the US American Councils' Chief Strategy and Development Officer, Miriam Parel, noted that 16 students from Kosovo are currently studying in the US "We are pleased that we have been able to award 62 scholarships since 2005 to a very talented group of Kosovars," Ms. Parel said.

The Kosovo American Education Fund (KAEF) is an education fund dedicated to the long-term economic development of Kosovo through the education of its people. KAEF provides fellowships to promising Kosovars for top-level training at select US universities. After returning to Kosovo, program graduates assume leadership positions in government, business, finance, and nonprofit organizations, using their knowledge and attained skills to generate sustainable and positive change. From 2005 through 2013, KAEF has awarded 62 master's-level fellowships through a competitive, merit-based process.
