Title VIII Southeast European Language Training Program (TITLE8SEEL)

Eligibility:

Graduate students, faculty and scholars who have at least a beginner level of proficiency in the target language. Fellowship recipients must be U.S. citizens.

Length:

One to nine months of intensive language study.

Price:

Fellowships typically provide full tuition at institution in Southeast Europe, international round trip airfare, health insurance, living and housing stipend, and visa support.

Deadline:

October 1st, 2010. Programs must begin must begin between June 2011 and June 2012; and must be completed by September 30, 2012.

The U.S. Department of State's Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII) makes funding available for qualified U.S. citizens studying at or above the graduate level in the humanities and social sciences.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, Title VIII Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and Eurasia (Independent States of the Former Soviet Union), the American Councils Southeast Europe Language Program provides language training in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia.

Academic year, semester, and summer programs feature instruction in the target language by members of university faculty; seminars focusing on vocabulary expansion, development of conversational skills, and stylistics and syntax; and graduate-level academic credit through Bryn Mawr College. Graduate students, faculty, and scholars in a wide range of fields (including literature, history, and linguistics) have received Title VIII support for language study; fellowship recipients must be U.S. citizens.
