- U.S. Embassy of Moldova Awards Open World Alumnus Grant for Green Project 09/10/12
Open World alumnus Nicolae Dandis completed the "Green Areas—A Platform for Cooperation and Education in Cahul" project, funded by the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. Mr. Dandis is also President of the DIALOG Association, Director of the Pro-Europa Center, lecturer at the State University of Cahul, and City Councilman in Cahul.
- Introduction of Jury Trial System in Georgia Prompts Alumni Roundtable 06/11/12
On March 27th, representatives from Georgia's court system convened for the Open World Program Alumni Roundtable at the Supreme Court of Georgia's event titled: "The Introduction of the Jury Trial System in Georgia and the Open World Program." The event was inspired by the recent introduction of
jury trials into Georgia.
- First Serbian Open World Delegation Visits the U.S. 04/30/12
From February 15 to 26, a Serbian Open World delegation visited the U.S. for the first time to conduct a professional exchange in higher education, museum management, and non-profit management. For many of the 20 participants, the visit marked their first, direct exposure to U.S. procedures and best practices in their respective fields. In cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Serbia, American Councils for International Education's Belgrade office administered the tour.
- Chief Justice Roberts and Sandra Day O'Connor meet with Ukrainian Constitutional Court Judges 02/09/12
In November 2011, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor met with Judges Mariia Markush, Petro Stetsiuk, and Serhii Vdovichenko, from the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, during their trip to Washington, D.C. on the Open World Program. The Open Word Program is a U.S. congressionally-funded initiative whose Rule of Law component seeks to strengthen relationships between the U.S. judiciary and the judiciaries of Ukraine, Russia, and other Eurasian countries. American Councils for International Education oversees logistics for the Open World Program.
