Boren Scholars, Fellows and alumni. Non-Boren sponsored applicants may also apply. All applicants must be US citizens.

The African Languages Initiative (AFLI) is designed to increase the number of Boren Scholars, Fellows, and alumni engaged in the study of critical African languages, and ultimately, to help meet the critical need for specialists in a range of academic and professional fields who can operate effectively in these languages. The languages targeted through this program currently are Portuguese, Swahili, Yoruba, and Zulu.
