Educational Seminars: Portugal Administrator Hosting Exchange Program (PAHEP)

Eligibility:

• Be a U.S. citizen
• Be a full-time K-12 school administrator (principal, assistant principal, superintendent) in the U.S.
• Have a minimum of three years of administrative experience at time of application
• Be able to attend Washington, DC program orientation
• Be able to host up to three administrative counterparts and a Portuguese interpreter in home community and school (housed in a hotel) for three weeks
• Be able to travel to participate in pre-program orientation

Length:

The Portugal Administrator Exchange Program includes an orientation in Washington, DC followed by hosting the Portuguese principals and a Portuguese interpreter for three weeks (hotel accommodations are covered by grant).

Price:

This program is funded through the Luso-American Development Foundation and the Bureau of Educational Affairs (ECA), U.S. Department of State. For U.S. administrators, this grant includes airfare; meals and/or per diem; accommodations for orientation in Washington, DC; lodging for participants and the Portuguese interpreter; and a hosting stipend for the U.S. participant host.

The Portugal Administrator Hosting Exchange Program is a short-term, mutual exchange opportunity for U.S. and Portugal school administrators that is fully funded by the Luso-American Foundation and the Bureau of Educational Affairs (ECA), U.S. Department of State. The program provides a professional development opportunity for U.S. and Portuguese school administrators to work together on issues of mutual interest to their communities, schools and students.

Administrators from Portugal spend three weeks with their U.S. partner in the fall of 2012. Programs are individualized through collaboration between partners and may focus on personnel administration, school systems and management, instruction, global issues and culture, curriculum development, student affairs, and/or educational policy.

Applicants should be creative, self-reliant, flexible and able to maintain excellent relationships with faculty, staff, and students. Applicants should have a sincere interest in learning from the experience of others and sharing best practices. Applicants should also be prepared to make presentations about the United States before diverse audiences abroad. Knowledge of the Portuguese language is not required.
