Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning. The event aims to (1) Mobilize youth and organizations to identify and address the needs of their communities and mobilize media and policy makers to promote and raise awareness of young people as assets and resources to their communities, (2) Support youth on a lifelong path of service and civic engagement, and finally (3) Sustain community improvement through year-round engagement of youth as leaders and problem-solvers. To learn more about Global Youth Service Day, check out the GYSD site.
Since 2004, FLEX alumni in hundreds of cities throughout Eurasia have organized projects and events, which promoted volunteerism and community service. This global action is an excellent opportunity to promote the FLEX alumni program locally and to cooperate with other groups and individuals who want to improve their communities. Not all people participating in the group must be FLEX alumni, but a project administrator who is a FLEX alumnus/a must be designated as the recipient and project leader. For more details, contact the Eurasia FLEX Alumni Office at flexalumni@americancouncils.ru lhurley@americancouncils.ru
Alumni are requested to submit electronic applications to the FLEX Eurasia Alumni Office at flexalumni@americancouncils.ru and lhurley@americancouncils.ru no later than Monday, March 1, 2010. Applicants will be notified in mid March of the results of the competition. Funds will be transferred in early April. All grant activities must be completed, funds expended and reports submitted by May 31, 2010.
