The results of the Outbound Department’s Fall 2008 Photo Contest are in! Join us in congratulating Siena Hansen for her wonderful picture of Tajikistan. Siena, a junior at Brigham Young University, is currently studying Persian in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

This fall the Eurasian Regional Language Program students were invited to participate in the Second Annual Outbound Photo Contest. The Outbound department received a number of excellent submissions ranging in subject from class excursions to the architecture and scenery of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. It was a very difficult decision, but our panel of judges would like to extend its congratulations to the overall winner – Siena Hansen for her exceptional photo of Tajik men sitting together on a bench. Siena is a Political Science and Anthropology major at the Brigham Young University.

Matthew Stein, a graduate student at the University of Kansas, won an Honorable Mention. Matt is working on his MA in Russian, East European and Eurasian and is studying Kazakh in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The Eurasian Regional Language Program currently has ten students studying abroad in Dushanbe, Tajikistan; Kyiv, Ukraine; and Almaty, Kazakhstan. This program is becoming increasingly popular each year, with the number of students studying in Dushanbe doubling over the past year. Students can also study in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and Turkmenistan.
