American Councils for International Education established The Generation FLEX Russia Alumni Fund in 2010 to offer FLEX alumni and other supporters the opportunity to contribute to alumni-initiated local projects in Russia. The fund offers alumni a way to stay connected to the program’s continued growth and success and to support volunteer initiatives, which are at the heart of the alumni program.
As of October 2012, alumni have contributed almost $4,000 to the fund. Donors were invited to vote on which projects to fund, and selected three: Children’s Smiles Dental Hygiene Project in Tomsk, Siberia; A Healthy Spirit in a Healthy Body Playground Project in Izhevsk; and Mr. English Lessons Project for Orphan Teens in St. Petersburg.
In addition to supporting social projects in alumni’s home communities, the Fund will support alumni participation in conferences, seminars, online training programs, and other professional development activities. This Fund provides a needed supplement to grant support provided by the U.S. State Department, thereby strengthening the alumni community as a whole.
The Fund will help alumni gain access to professional development opportunities to enhance their skills, which will make them more competitive in the job market. As a result, alumni will benefit from having a stronger network, with more alumni in better positions throughout the country.
The Fund will also help communities by supporting meaningful projects designed and implemented by alumni.
