Globalization, Integration, and Social Development
in Central and Eastern Europe
International Round Table for Young Social

Twenty-eight scholars from Romania, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Poland, Albania, and Slovakia shared their experiences and tried to find solutions to the common and unique problems that society faces nowadays. Each day of the seminar was focused on the specific area: (1) Ex-communist Societies in a Globalizing World, (2) Transition and Social Policy, and (3) Media and the Revival of the Identity. The following issues were examined in greater detail: EUi ntegration and change of values; the new economic realities; redefining social welfare; poverty and inequality; family, migration, and labor units; mass media and different types of identity. The main outcome of the roundtable was a published book containing participants’ papers. In addition, the electronic network was created in order to facilitate communication and to promote future scientific projects between the scientists over the region. Overall, this event served as a useful tool for exchanging ideas, creating network and strengthening collaboration between the young social scientists in Central and Eastern Europe.
